Marvelous Marketing Trends by Jacqui: Marketing Magic

By Jacqui Breger Founder and CEO of Miracles & Marvels LLC

At initial meetings with many small business owners, I often see the disappointment in their faces when discussing their marketing efforts thus far. They have tried numerous endeavors, only to find that their ROI (return on investment) is dismal to say the least. However, they still pursue various avenues, hoping that if they throw enough against the wall, something will stick… something will be the magic formula generating high‐quality, frequent leads, hence turning their business into a huge success!

These success stories are not a figment of your imagination – “they do exist” (as per the M&M commercial aired every holiday season since 1996). There are companies or service professionals who are generating more leads then they can handle, the million-dollar question is how?

The truth of the matter is that there is no universal magic formula. Each company and each service provider is unique and has to create a unique brand identity within the market. But just like any magic trick, there is always an approach, always a methodology that blurs the lines between perception and reality. Same is true for a successful marketing campaign. Any successful marketing campaign that you have witnessed did not happen by accident. Each step was carefully thought out and strategized, just as in a magic show where each move, each prop, every change in lighting, staging and movement is done to enhance the effect of the trick, so too is each step of every successful campaign.

Our instant gratification society has led us to believe that we should see immediate results or deem it a failure. Those that are successful know that each and every marketing campaign takes persistence, perseverance and a certain amount of time to generate success. It takes time to build your brand recognition and identity, to strategically implement a successful campaign and to gain customers’ trust and loyalty. The M&M commercial which has aired each holiday season for eighteen-years is a perfect example of such.

Throwing something against the wall and hoping it will stick will not create a truly successful marketing campaign. Success comes through a carefully strategized targeted approach encompassing multiple media sources, a robust online presence, consistency, immense creativity, patience and perfect timing. If this strategy is designed just right, you can sit back and enjoy a spectacular show!

Marvelous Marketing Trends by Jacqui: Social Butterfly or Wallflower?

We all have different personalities; some of us are extrovert, some introvert. Some of us love to be the “belle of the ball,” while others of us prefer to sit quietly and observe the action. Our personalities are what attract us to each other, whether as partners, friends or professionals. In today’s world, social media provides us with a different forum to showcase our personalities; the only difference is that we get to share our experiences, our knowledge or our events with our entire network at one time.

We can almost equate this experience to that of living in a small town, where everyone knows our business (almost before we do). When we share something on Facebook, we are sharing it with all our friends, when we tweet to Twitter, we are tweeting to all that follow us and so on. However, what so many forget is that each individual has the power to share, tweet or post, within the confines of their own specific personality. Each person can determine what they are comfortable sharing with their network. In fact, when you are true to your personality, the recipient generally responds more favorably. The most effective social media marketing campaigns are those where it is transparent that what is shared by the person posting, sharing or tweeting is authentic, genuine and honest and where it is clear that the sharer is simply portraying their knowledge, their true experiences and their passions with others!

Therefore the best advise I can give you is to not lose out on this great networking opportunity by being fearful of social media, whether you are a social butterfly or a wallflower, participate at the level you are most comfortable, but participate. Share whatever you are comfortable sharing and let your beautiful individual personality shine through!

A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Marketing business sales

Some of my family and friends call me the “dessert queen”, I adore making sweet treats and having my family and friends revel in the way they look and taste. I don’t just love the preparation of the cakes, cookies, deserts and confections, but my favorite is the time I spend icing, decorating and applying the special touches that make my custom creations unique and interesting to the palate. While creating a particularly intricate cake the other day, I was reminded of a marketing campaign I was working on for a client and the similarities were glaring. Planning and strategizing for a successful marketing campaign is just as important as planning to bake a complex cake. You have to make sure you have all your ingredients and resources at your disposal so you are ready to embark on a successful campaign. The more intricate the campaign (or cake) the more detailed the research and more extensive the resources needed and the more likely you will have to start in plenty of time to ensure success.  If you have decided to embark on a new marketing campaign, you need to strategize, plan and be ready to do so. Marketing today isn’t about placing an ad in a magazine, mailing a few postcards or having a website. Without a strategic integrated comprehensive targeted campaign that effectively and efficiently communicates with your audience where and how they wish to be reached, well then you are just putting some of your ingredients into a bowl and hoping to create a masterpiece. The cake needs all the ingredients and in today’s digital age, it even needs the icing and decorations that maybe, if you can’t add yourself, it is worth bringing in experienced professionals to help you.
